Today I want to share my video on how I deal with overwhelm in my own life and how I teach my clients to do that.

So, if you’re feeling overwhelmed, any time that thought or feeling comes up I want you to remember “T.M.I.” Okay? Too Much Information going into my brain and it’s overwhelming my brain. It can literally keep you from functioning and prevent you from making any forward progress because there’s too much information.  (Click or tap here to read the transcript from this video.)

Have you ever found yourself in the middle of a task and that task suddenly overwhelms you? My friend, Gina, experienced this during one of our recent Get It Done Days as she was cleaning out her closet.

Just click or tap the audio play button to listen and tap-along as we dissolve the overwhelm associated with this task!

When dealing with overwhelm, the first thing that I teach my clients to do is to sort out all of the information. You need to design some kind of little process that you can do where you sort out all the stuff into its own little box.

For example: We’re worried about our taxes. And we’re worried about our kid’s graduation and we’re worried…

Right? All these things that aren’t really the same thing, but we jumble them all in our head.

So the first thing we do is take a little tablet and we make our little dump list. The first thing that happens once we start doing this is that we see that it’s not as much as it feels like. The second thing that happens is that we recognize it’s now something we can do something about. We can now take action on a piece of this puzzle. It’s like having five different puzzles dumped out on a table and we’re supposed to build a puzzle with only one picture. Right? We’ve got to sort out all the puzzle pieces and put each thing in its own box.

So today what I want you to do is to look at making your list, sorting it out, figuring out the one thing that is really pressing today. (And I know – business owners – got it! There are always 500 things.) But I can only do one at at time. So I always ask myself, “What is the most pressing thing that needs to be done today?” To assist a client? To move my business forward? (Always in that priority, by the way. Always my clients first – setting up schedules, making sure I’m there and showing up fully for their appointments – and then creating the business and, of course, after business hours dealing with my family, my home, etc.)

So let’s do a little bit of tapping on overwhelm…

Karate Chop:
Even though I’m thinking TMI, too much information, can’t do it all at once.

(Take a deep breath for me.)

Karate Chop:
I deeply and completely love and appreciate that it’ll get done – or it won’t. Maybe I just need to quit today. Even though I’m thinking I have too much to do and too little time – maybe it’s my wedding – it’ll all get done or it won’t. And it may be time for me to ask for a little more help.

(Nice deep breath and still karate chopping.)

Even thought it feels like I’m overwhelmed and part of the challenge may be that I’m trying to do too much stuff alone or that I’m being a perfectionist – I want everything to be perfect (and that’s impossible), I deeply and completely love and honor that I can only do what I can do today.

Top of the Head:
What really is begging for my attention today?

Between the Eyes:
Sometimes overwhelm is a sign that I need attention today. (Deep breath)

Side of the Eyes:
I wonder if there’s something I’m avoiding by being overwhelmed. (Nice deep breath)

Under the Eyes:
Maybe there’s a hard conversation that I don’t want to have.

Under the Nose:
Or maybe there’s an issue that I’m hoping will go away by itself.

Above the Chin:
And so I’m keeping myself all spun up and agitated.

Collar Bones:
And I know a lot of this is my EGO mind.

Under the Arm:
Releasing this energy of overwhelm.

Bottom of the Ribs:
It’s like reving my engine and going nowhere. (Nice deep breath)

Top of the Head:
I am open to ideas about reducing my overwhelm.

Between the Eyes:
Maybe time to go take a walk outside.

Side of the Eyes:
Maybe I need to drink some water.

Under the Eyes:
Maybe I need to hug a friend.

Under the Nose:
Maybe it’s time to do more tapping on what is really going on behind this.

Above the Chin:
Maybe I put myself in this bind because I’m addicted to being overwhelmed.

Collar Bones:
Maybe I’ve put things off and now it’s catching up with me.

Under the Arm:
All of these things have a resolution, but I’m burning a lot of time, energy and attention by staying in this state of overwhelm.

Bottom of the Ribs:
Releasing overwhelm (take a deep breath)

(I invite you to put your comments about what has you overwhelmed and which of these couple of things it is.)

Top of the Head:
Am I trying to put all of my pies into one pot?

Between the Eyes:
Am I trying to avoid something?

Side of the Eyes:
Am I feeling hopless about something so I’m staying overwhelmed?

Under the Eyes:
Is it grief?

Under the Nose:
Is it trauma?

Above the Chin:
Is it a habit for me to stay spun up and overwhelmed?

Collar Bones:
Releasing this habit and pattern.

Under the Arm:
Telling my body and mind to be still and to be calm. All is well.

Bottom of the Ribs:
Releasing this state of overwhelm so that I can actually think clearly.

(Deep breath)

I’d love your feedback!

I always love getting your questions and comments. It gives me more to work on when I do the next video because then I can actually tap specifically for what’s going on with you and see if we can help you out a bit.

Have a calm and productive and “not perfect” day because that’s human. Give yourself a break.

Talk to you later. Bye!
